End Forced Marriage in the United States

In 2011, over 3,000 cases of forced marriage were encountered in just a 2-year period, all across the country. Thousands of women and girls in the U.S., and also men and boys, may be at risk each year. Victims may be forced into marriages here in the U.S. – maybe at the courthouse just down the street from you – or may be taken (tricked or forced) to another country for the ceremony.

This petition asks President Obama to create a national action plan to protect individuals at risk and to support survivors.

Remove Confederate Flags at Stone Mountain

Stone Mountain can have historical and educational context, but should not celebrate a culture of hate. Flying the flag is a sign of respect and honor, neither of which should be given to racism and a legacy of enslaving people. The Confederate flag perpetuates values of and pride in White supremacy and racism.

This petition asks Georgia State Legislature to remove the flags from Stone Mountain.

End Racial Enrollment Discrimination

Edmund currently has a 3.83 GPA, and has above average testing scores in language arts, math, and science. Edmund would no longer be allowed to attend Gateway Science Academy due to state laws because he is African-American.

End AIDS Discrimination in Louisiana

Hundreds of people with HIV/AIDS in Louisiana are in danger of being thrown out of the insurance plan. The state's largest carrier is rejecting checks from a federal program designed to help these patients pay for AIDS drugs and insurance premiums, and has begun notifying customers that their enrollment in its Obamacare plans will be discontinued, and they will no longer accept third-party payments.

This petition asks President Obama to create a national action plan to protect individuals at risk and to support survivors.

Stop Using the Term "Child Prostitute"

There is no such thing as a child prostitute. Girls as young as 10 are beaten, kidnapped, gang raped, and tortured into selling their bodies to adults. In more than 5,000 instances in the past 5 years media outlets labeled victims as “child prostitute,” or other variations to describe these exploited children negatively.

This petition asks Georgia State Legislature to remove the flags from Stone Mountain.

Change Financial Aid Policies for Students

The rule for the FAFSA is that anyone under 24 is a dependent and must include their parents’ financial information on their application. Only in extreme cases like abuse or homelessness are students able to claim full financial independence. If students are financially independent, they should be able to apply on their own.

This petition asks that the U.S. Department of Education makes a change in FAFSA dependency requirements.

Remove Confederate Flag From Georgia Plates

It's long past time to eliminate the Confederate battle flag as an option for state-sanctioned Georgia license plates. It's long past time to stop offending our brothers and sisters for whom this flag represents the worst of our past behavior. Let's move on towards peace, respect and community.

This petition asks Georgia State Legislature to remove this option because it symbolizes racial hatred.

Fight Child Sex Trafficking in the U.S.

Right now there are 100,000 to 300,000 underage girls being sold for sex in America. Every year 50,000 women and children are trafficked into the United States and the average age indoctrination into human trafficking begins between the ages of 12-14 years old. Many of these children have been involved with our nation’s foster care systems which do not have the appropriate training and services to effectively address and resolve these issues.

This petition asks Congress to pass the Strengthening Child Welfare Response to Trafficking Act of 2015.
